Livingston Arts administers several grant programs for local artists and community groups. Except for the Young Artist Grant program, all of these grants are funded by the New York State Council on the Arts. Here are the 2014 Grant Recipients:
Richard Shearer: “This Ground,” a series of oil paintings influenced by historical photographs of the building of the Mount Morris Dam. There will also be a lecture series to explore the history of this area at the Mount Morris Dam visitors center, the Dansville Public Library and the Groveland Correctional Facility.
Artists in Education
Patricia Lewis-Browne, Keshequa Central School: A Question of Race. 8th graders will explore the topic of race using theatre improvisation and will learn how to write, interpret and perform poetry.
Ted Canning, York Central School: Steel Band Residency. 5th graders explore Caribbean history & culture through Trinidadian music making.
Sharon Leary, Geneseo Central School: The History of Pottery in Upstate New York – From Native Americans to the Erie Canal. 4th graders study the evolution of technology and social structures through different pottery techniques.
Community Arts Grants
Avon Community Theater: Summer theatre camp for kids and a production of The King and I
Avon Free Library: Summer reading and art at the library program.
Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation: Clay on Wheels with artist Lyndsay Clark.
First Presbyterian Church of Caledonia: Celtic concert series. Next two performances will be May 9th and December 5th.
Friends of the Genesee Valley Greenway: Canyon Camera Club’s 12th Annual Photographer’s Dream Day, June 28th.
