Course description: Livingston County News editor and web designer Mark Gillespie will give a brief overview of simple, open source publishing systems that can help artists set up a studio portfolio online. It’s not as difficult as you think!
Feb. 13 — Choosing a host and a platform. An introduction to “content management systems.” A detailed look at the capabilities of Tumblr and WordPress. How to register a URL and set up commercial web hosting for a self-contained open source CMS.
Feb. 20 — Customizing WordPress. Selecting and modifying a commercial WordPress theme. How to build static pages and blog posts. How to extend the capabilities of WordPress
Feb. 27 — Search Engine Optimization and social networking. How to get the best rankings on Google, Bing and other search engines, plus an introduction to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Pinterest and other social networks.
March 6 — Conclusion and feedback session. Class will discuss ways they might implement what they’ve learned about open source web design.
FREE to members! $35 for non-members (this fee will include a one-year membership to the arts council). Must register in advance, minimum of 5 registrants required.
