Ms. Novey adds novelist to her titles of poet and translator with her debut novel. The work details the life of Emma Neufeld, a translator for a fictional Brazilian author, Beatriz Yagoda. Once Yagoda goes missing in Brazil, Neufeld begins the search for Yagoda in a foreign country armed only with a knowledge of the Yagoda’s literature, to the surprise of Neufeld’s boyfriend, Yagoda’s adult children and Neufeld herself. The novel combines elements of mystery, romance, noir and humor on the journey from Pittsburgh to Rio.
