Anne Clements, Blessed Be Photography
Anne has lived in Livonia for 34 years. While completing her Bachelors degree in 2005 she studied the Reggio Emilia approach where childern focus on different media to explore the world. Her documentation of this study, done in photos and text, is displayed at Empire College in Rochester. Anne facilitates a Reggio inspired art studio at Annie’s Ark childcare center. She exposes children to drawing from life, clay sculpture, painting and collage representation. She has always had a camera in her hands documenting family gatherings and children playing. She recently started using a digital instead of a 35 mil on her fourth trip to Ireland. These photos have become Blessed Be Photography and are for sale and display. She hopes to venture to Italy for more Reggio studies and photos of the country.

I rarely represent the human figure because of its historically negative impact on Nature. My intense love of the music and art of the Classical and Romantic eras, and their relation to the Sublime, is the other source for my creative inspiration and drive. Currently I am expanding my Master of Fine Arts Thesis, “Landscapes of Beethoven’s Signature.” This continued work includes landscape paintings, some of which incorporate calligraphy from Beethoven’s manuscripts, as well as sculptures (made of found objects) relating to various aspects of the composer’s life. I teach private art lessons and art workshops with a limited number of students.

Ruth Vaughan, Springwater Paperworks
Ruth Vaughan, artist and papermaker, has been working in fine art handmade paper since receiving a BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1982. Her work has been shown internationally and can be found in many private and corporate collections including those of IBM, AT&T, and the University of Rochester. A full time producing artist, Ruth established “Springwater Paperworks” studio in Hemlock, New York, and is represented by Esmay Fine Art in Rochester. As an educator working with both children and adults, she has given lectures, demonstrations, and workshops in papermaking since 1990. Ruth has been involved in Arts in Education since 1994, and is currently vice president of the Rochester Region, New York State Association of Teaching Artists.

Just before the turn of the century, painting came knocking on my door. I had been an artist as a child but put it aside as adulthood called me to a career. I was driving to work one morning when I suddenly “saw” the landscape for the first time in years. From that moment, I wanted to paint what I was seeing from roads I traveled every day. I guess if I had a sense of purpose it is to remind others to “look” as they go through this incredible painting called the Genesee Valley. For me, the process of painting is more about letting it happen than making it happen. Experience and technique are essential to the process but without a sort of divine inspiration, my work lacks passion. It is satisfying to hear someone ask or say “Oh, isn’t this such-and-such a place? Or, “I love this tree; I pass it every day.” It is then that I know a painting has captured something special. Painting is an unbelievable opportunity to let go, take risks, and watch as incredible things happen at the tip of a brush.
